going home

two and a half weeks ago, i packed up all my stuff and started road tripping. i went from minnesota to missouri to georgia to tennessee and then back to georgia, one quick transition after the other, sleeping on the floor, my friend’s couch, maybe a bed if i’m lucky. through it all, i’ve discovered a longing for home; not really for minnesota, but for a place of permanence, somewhere i can make a home. all this hopping around has got me dreaming about what kind of place i want to live in permanently.

but that’s not really the point of this life, is it? as beautiful as it is, this world isn’t our home; you can lose it all in the blink of an eye. as much as i hate it, i could have my dream house, the perfect life, and i might still have to leave it all behind.

abandonment is something they talk about on the Race, how to live life away from physical comforts, but it’s quite hard to live it out in the states. on the Race, you physically cannot have the comforts you want; but here in the u.s., you can get whatever you want pretty much whenever. how do you let go when it’s all within reach?

so maybe this is a reminder that my home can never truly be found in anything or anyone on this earth, but in the One making a home for me in heaven. everyone and everything around me can change, but my true Home, my Abba, He never changes. i’m still learning this, still wrestling, not always sure how to apply it, but i wanted to share with y’all what it’s looked like.

thanks for reading! i’m currently fundraising for CGA (which starts this friday!!); if you want to know more or want to partner with me financially, send me an email! i’m hoping to build up a group of monthly supporters, but if you can only donate once, you are more than welcome to!
